Laser Use and the Law
In Kentucky, the use of a laser or IPL machine is considered the practice of Medicine. Anyone using a laser must be a Physician or there must be a Physician on site and immediately available. Indications
The newest in Laser technology is used to remove unwanted facial or body hair. Areas amenable to treatment include the upper lip, chin, underarms, chest, breasts, back, bikini line, legs and feet. The laser is not used around the eyes.
Goals
The goal of Laser Hair Removal is the removal of unwanted hair making shaving, creams, waxing, and electrolysis unnecessary.
Where Does the Procedure Take Place
Laser Hair Removal is safely performed in the office.
Anesthesia
Many areas require no anesthesia. Some areas require a topical anesthetic.
Surgery Time
Most areas can be treated in a few minutes. In general, the larger the area the longer the treatment.
Recovery
Most patients return to their normal routine immediately. There may be some mild redness or stinging but this usually subsides within 24 hours.
Follow-up
Three to six treatments are generally needed spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
Complications
Complications are rare with this procedure but do exist. Is essential that patients be aware of potential complications before undergoing this or any medical procedure.
Fees
Fees vary by treatment area and range from $200 to $1200. Repeat treatments are 50% of the first treatment.
